The Internet is a system of worldwide interconnection of computers that uses the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to transmit data between networks and devices. It is a network of networks, like the wires in a building, that consists of data. This data could be anything from private emails and public news articles to academic research papers, business transactions, and government policies.
