The dream of putting a man on the moon was a highlight of President John F. Kennedy. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was tasked with fulfilling his goal. However, NASA was not created during the JFK administration. Instead, it evolved from the National Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which eventually led to the formation of NASA.
